Thought I'd update my desk/room mac/pc setup. I use to have a 20 gallon long tank here. But, have since removed it and placed an Ikea table top on top of the drawer and is now my mac desk where I do most of my video/photo editing.

The mac is still my old but capable Mid-2010 15' MBP connected to a 23' Asus PA238Q IPS monitor. On the right hand side is my planted nano cube tank where a lone betta and a lone ottocinclus lives.

On the other side of the room is my pc/gaming setup. I added a BenQ XL2720Z 27' monitor to go with the Dell P2214H 22' monitor. The hype about 144 Hz monitors is real. And, it really does make a difference compared to 60 Hz monitors. I also like the BenQ for typing with its Flicker-Free display and low blue light feature since I type partially now as a means of income. This is also why I treated myself a Unicomp Ultra Classic keyboard.

This keyboard has the old IBM buckling springs and makes typing kinda loud, but, satisfying. It's clickier, thumpier, and heavier (to press) than my old Razer Blackwidow TE keyboard, which has Cherry MX Blue switches. It's fine for gaming, as well. Also, featured is my 20 gallon long planted tank there by the window.

Since I spend 90% of my time here, having a planted fish tank really helps me fend off boredom and is also inspiring and keeps me busy. Thought I'd update my desk/room mac/pc setup. The BenQ XL2720Z is a lightning-quick, premium gaming monitor that will serve any FPS fan well, bar none. A long, long time ago – fine, around 2005 – when gamers wanted quick response times.

Click to expand.Nice looking setup. I have and still use two IBM Model Ms (one tenkeyless SSK) and they're quite enjoyable to type on, but I didn't really find them great for gaming. Too heavy for me after a while. Topre switches have won my heart for daily drivers, though. Glad to see the buckling spring live on! Unicomp has been forever saying they'll release a compact/60% buckling spring board.

You're right about 144 Hz monitors. My CS GO playing got much better when I switched to a 1ms 144Hz monitor (and a card that could push the pixels properly). Nice looking setup. You have the OG kb, whereas, I have the 'knockoff.' I'm sure the quality of those IBM's are a lot better than the Unicomps.

I have a few keys where the lettering aren't centered. I can also see some excess plastic off some edges. I guess it's like buying a classic used car. Not everything will be perfect. But, it's also not like a classic car either since Unicomp builds these KB's from the ground up using IBM buckling spring tech that they have acquired. So, I don't know why they can't make it perfect.

Or have a higher standard of manufacturing. This would not fly in any other company. But, I guess some companies due to the mythic power and allure of those IBM Model M's that they can get away with it. But, I digress.

I do enjoy typing on these, though after everything is said and done. I've had a chance to type a lot on them and I admit that I like it better than my old Razer KB which had Blue Cherry MX switches. I am also surprised to learn that the heavier keys did not make it any more or less tiring, either. Maybe, even lean on less tiring simply because I can rest my fingers on the keys and not actuate them accidentally. So, on long marathon typing sessions, the Unicomp KB actually wins in this regard.

Where on the Razer KB, I had to hover my fingers over the keys, so as to not actuate them. And, on the Unicomp, I can simply lay my fingers on the keys without actuating them. The heavier keys also makes me more precise for some reason. As for gaming, I don't have complaints. It works and it's clicky.

And, I don't find the heavier keys as a detriment. Nor, the lack of N-key rollover. I guess I am heavy-handed. But, thanks for the feedback. I thought of splurging and getting the Realforce KB's, which has topre keys I think. But, they are twice as much as the Unicomps. Maybe, down the road, I will get get one.

PS-I don't actually know how Unicomp makes their KB's. I don't know if they build them from the ground up or restore old shells or whatnot.
